Miss Fix-It Returns
today i decided to go shopping for a new kitchen faucet while my husband was at work, dutifully earning a living for our family. among the accumulating failures of the old fossil in the kitchen (the faucet, not me!), the sprayer attachment has been broken for years. having received a very practical Home Depot gift card as a wedding gift, i set out, gift card in hand, to find the perfect new faucet. i ordered a lovely and fairly cost conscious model from their catalog that covers three of the four holes in my kitchen sink, and i was told it would arrive in a few days. this was a little disappointing, since i was feeling all in a handy mood and now i had nothing in hand to install. pondering this point, i realized there was a fourth hole in my sink, and Home Depot had some lovely choices on their shelves for one of those soap dispensers that would quite nicely occupy that fourth opening. 'Miss Fix-It' on my shoulder compelled me to the purchase, whispering convincingly, "well at least you can install this soap thingy today while you wait for the faucet to arrive."
once home, i set about removing the broken sprayer from the fourth hole in the sink, but of course, the sprayer head wouldn't go down the hole, so i just cut it off from the plastic hose. this seemingly logical step resulted in what they call in the business world "unintended consequences." yep, it seems that even a broken sprayer head still functions to prevent the water from coming out the sprayer hose when you turn on the faucet. now how was i going to use this darn faucet with water squirting out this hose?? of course, if i removed the sprayer hose too, it would just run out the tubing under the sink. so now i have a handy hose coming up out of the hole in the sink offering an additional source of water for perhaps TWO of us to wash dishes at once! (yeah, right.)
hopefully the new faucet will be here soon and my husband can take charge of the plumbing.
